San Diego's Casbah Turns 21 / Partytime

Photobucket

Flier by Anthony Gerace/Friends Explode

This coming Wednesday, The Casbah, San DIego's finest and most famous joint is celebrating it's 21st birthday. Art Fag Recordings and The Casbah have come together to put together a night of extreme fun. Christmas Island, Beaters, Heavy Hawaii and Nude Boy are all playing. That's like the raddest bullshit ever, but for extra added bonus, DJs Brandon Welchez, Charles Rowell and Mario Orduno (me) are playing all kinds of noise & junk between bands. It costs 6 dollars. Starts at 8:30. If you're in the Southern California area come say hello and help celebrate or whatever.

Mutating Meltdown / San Diego / Aug 7

Photobucket

One of my favorite records released this year is the Mutating Meltdown 7" on M'Lady's Records. It's post punk, no wave, distorted disco GOLD. Veronica & Erin from Finally Punk are 2/3 of MM, and I think it's their best project yet (although I love the fuck out of all of 'em, nuff raspeck).

Well all that being said, I'm straight trippin' that they're on tour now and on the way to sunny San Diego on Aug 7. Badass. They're playing a kinda big deal at Soda Bar. Beaters are playing and celebrating their new 7" release, along with Christmas Island, Wicked Awesomes and Le Face. Also, for extra added pleasure bonus, Crocodiles' Brandon will finally be back to help me clean the earholes of all the unsuspecting guests.

8 BUCKS playa...

Oh wait, how bout the flier huh? Gay Chicanos. All expressing themselves. What a find.

Lastly, check the Mutating Meltdown Myspace thing for all the tour info. They're playing literally EVERYWHERE so go see 'em!!

Expressway To Yr Skull

When our night in San DIego, Skull Kontrol, at Live Wire ended due to license restrictions we were all super duper sad. These nights were MAGIC. Packed and loud, Thursdays were like New Year's Eve every week. Punk, rap, oldies, noisy ear hole cleaners and anything we wanted were spun shockingly to the enjoyment of all the fools that came through the doors.

Well I'm happy to announce a new night to give new life to our mangled up vision. This Thursday, we (Crocodiles' Sir Charles & Brandon and myself) start Expressway To Yr Skull at Soda Bar. There'll be new things to offer here including booking bands every now and then that we're proud to bring to our teeny, sunny and beloved San Diego. It will usually be free, or a tiny baby cover charge if we have a live groop. I hope if you are around you can make it out one of these messes. This week we have a special guest, Los Angeles' Andrew Miller.

Crocodiles

New band crap here. Crocodiles' debut is nearing folks. Who? Oh. Crocodiles Charles Rowell and Brandon Welchez formally of The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower and The Prayers. A two piece. Their debut will be in San Francisco at The Knockout with Austin's The Carrots and their buddies Fantastic Magic of San Diego. Also scheduled is a Sunday May 25 show with Oxford's Foals (Sub Pop) @ Brick by Brick in San Diego and June 15 with New Bloods @ The Casbah, also in San Diego. You can locate these men at HERE.

PRE (UK), The Muslims (SD) Play At Tower April 19 In San Diego

A Saturday night, god damn it. PRE stands for "penis retarded England". Not really, but that's what they said! Anyway, these noisy nuggets are on their way to San Diego to play with The Muslims at The Tower Bar. Fuck it. These three dudes and a gal are known for their crazy live shows. Homegirl gets all crazy and makes love to the floor and stuff. The Muslims? Not so crazy. These four chaps are the cream of the crop though. Pure songsmen. They're my dogsmen too.

PRE Myspace

So if you can afford the measly 5 dollar admission fee, come on over! Like I said earlier, fuck it.

Here's some More Crap About A New Night, Out Of Vogue

Flier. Sure, sure. Fucking nice work right? Expect like a bunch o' good tunes.

Myspace. Everyone's got one right? Add that for reminders and any new 411.
Or we might even have to send some 911/411. Super urgent big news.

Oh, fuck ME man, I almost forgot. This is for San Diegans. From San Diego. Starlite in S-A-N D-I-E-G-O. Or at least Southern Californians. Or very frequent visitors.

Skull Kontrol This Thursday And Cat Power "Jukebox" Listening Party

This Thursday @ Skull Kontrol we're having a listening party for the new Cat Power record, Jukebox. Jukebox will be played in it's entirety at 7pm with a "dollar off happy hour" (which takes place every M thru F @ Live Wire) and again at 9pm. We'll have cds to give away. Also we're going to have limited edition silver foil posters for ya. These posters are only going to be available on homegirl's upcoming tour and only a few were made up. Surely an ebay item in the making. What else we got....oh! just some stickers and postcards or whatever, courtesy of the fine folks at Matador Records.

After the album listening, count on having your ears all violated by the usual and unusual sounds of a Skull Kontrol club nite.

Jukebox tracklisting:

1. New York (Frank Sinatra)
2. Ramblin' (Wo)man (Hank Williams)
3. Metal Heart (Cat Power)
4. Silver Stallion (The Highwaymen)
5. Aretha, Sing One For Me (George Jackson)
6. Lost Someone (James Brown)
7. Lord, Help The Poor And Needy (Jessie Mae Hemphill)
8. I Believe In You (Bob Dylan)
9. Song To Bobby (Cat Power, written by Chan Marshall and Matt Sweeney)
10. Don't Explain (Billie Holiday)
11. Woman Left Lonely (Janis Joplin)
12. Blue (Joni Mitchell)

The names in parentheses are the best known performer of the song, not necessarily the songwriter. So don't get smart mouth with me.

Solid Gold SOUL Dance Party This Thursday W/ The Muslims And Fantastic Magic

The second installment of a new soul and oldies dance party is this Thursday @ The Tower Bar. Solid Gold. The Muslims and Fantastic Magic are playing LIVE and Brandon Welchez and myself will be playing the best rare soul and classic favorites to dance to. All 60s, all uptempo scorchers.

It's going to start early so keep that in mind. Also, this is a monthly party taking place on the second Thursday of every month, so fire that in your goddamn domes.
