Booty Bassment This Saturday With A Special Performance By The Prayers And Magic Bullets

Other than our very own Skull Kontrol night here in San Diego, I think Booty Bassment is the only club type thing worth going to. Dimitri and Ikah put together a nice operation. What other operation offers a butt shake contest? Anyway, this Saturday, there won't be a butt shake showdown, but there will be a bonus. The Prayers and San Francisco's Magic Bullets are playing to open the night. From 9:00 to 10:30. You can check out MBs on their Myspace below, cuz I don't feel like talking about it.

It's 5 dollars, it's at The Whistle Stop, It's Saturday, it's 21+, it starts at NINE SHARP.

Welcome Milkfat Films!!

Miklfat Films is officially launched this week. I've been waiting MONTHS for this. Milkfat is a collective of some very good friends of ours along with some strangers. A talented group of ladies and gentlemen of film, they are based in New York, Los Angeles and Malta. Along with film work and a newly launched blog, they will also be setting up events, including a launch party on December 14 in LA. Check their website for newly completed music videos and short films. Below are two newly released promos for the Skull Kontrol club in San Diego's Live Wire bar and The Muslims' "Extinction" single respectively. There's also a Prayers video coming soon, but is being held back for an exclusive release by the new and soon to be huge RCRD LBL website. Plan on tons of collaborations between the Mlkfat, Art Fag and Skull Kontrol families. So welcome Milkfat and stay tuned for their first event on December 14.

October 18, Skull replacement.

So The "Mighty" Prayers are going across the pond. Off to see The Queen for 2 weeks or so. Festivals, club gigs and what have you. They leave next week. Bon Voyage doggies.

Anyway. The important thing here is me. While they're gone I'll be doing the next Skull Kontrol on the 18th. Since I usually do these shits with Brandon Welchez and Sir Charles, I'll need a new partner. Cuz I'm lazy and I won't do it alone. SO. I've asked Big D aka Dimitri Dickensen aka DJ Cockerspaniel of Booty Bassment to join me. It's going to be bonkers. Maybe even bananas. Expect a brand new take on our anything goes Skull policy. Expect your ears to be even EXTRA cleaned out. God bless Skull Kontrol.

Skull Kontrol ALWAYS @ Live Wire.

Thursday October 18.

Always FREE.

Thursday // Friday

THURSDAY

Skull Kontrol @ Live WIre (El Cajon & Alabama, San Diego)

San Diego's noisiest and most interesting night. The best, most fun, weirdest mix of music in one crammed-in, tiny and glorious bar, The Live Wire. Beloved "DJs" Mario Orduno and Sir Charles play the platters that matter. Free.

ALSO!! ATTENTION!! @ Skull Kontrol, Sir Charles and I will be giving a way a couple pairs of tickets EACH to THE Fest on Friday at The Casbah.

FRIDAY

"THE" Fest 2007 @ The Casbah (Kettner & Laurel, San Diego)

THE Sundelles, THE Atoms, THE Sess, THE Prayers, THE Vultures, THE Muslims LIVE. THE best of San Diego bands, most with brand new releases to celebrate. Between bands listen to the loud selections of Brandon Welchez, Andrew Miller, Mario Orduno, and Sir Charles. $8. Get there early, as this will sell out no DOUBT. And bands start promptly @ 9pm. Lottery for line-up order will be in effect so don't think you know who plays first OR last. Booyow.

Skullz just added to Fuck Yeah Fest line up

Son of a B. The Skullz are proud to announce that we've been axed to "dj" at Fuck Yeah Fest. We'll be in the Echoplex (best part by the way) with NO AGE and Pissed Jeans and Indian Jewelry. We'll be playing 15 minute sets between bands from 9-12 and then all night after 12. Super party time melt down mania. Oh and it's Sunday night, August 26. Me thinks Brandon is going to throw up from his drinking. 'Member LAST year?

San Francisco Day 1.

We left at 7:30 in the goddamn morning. Oddly enough, we left in an organized and timely fashion. Very rare. Me and Brandon picked up Dimitri (Booty Bassment) and we were off to pick up Andrew and then Megan in LA. We had a small group and a light load due to Brian (The Prayers' drummer) not being able to make the trip. Who cares about the drive, right? The only thing I'll add is that "Cowschwitz" fucking stinks in central California. Poor things. All cooped up.

The Knockout was the venue for the Friday show/club. I really like it there. It's a perfect size, small yet big enough. It also has a lot of character. I don't want to say dingy, because it sounds bad...but it's worn in you know? Also the staff there is really nice and generous. Free drinks all night and no questions or limits. Considering the price a bar pays for alcohol, isn't that the way it should be? I played records by myself for the first hour or so, and then The Vultures arrived. Totally late, mind you, due to a tire blowout. So it was a kind of a stressful vibe for a while. But they went on and they shredded. I know I've said this before, but they are getting better EVERY time they play. Since the crowd had very little knowledge of The Vultures, they were a bit stand offish, which I know bugs Chuck, but they did dig it and applauded loudly after each song. I think next time will be even better for them, now that the single is out and they've played up there.

After they played, I played more records while Ye Olde Prayers set up. They set up with a stand up drum set and each one of them played drums while the other two played guiter, bass and/or sang. I think it sounded great. Honestly, I think they should try this set up more often. It could use some more practice and maybe some changes but I loved it, and I think anybody who had seen them in the traditional set up liked it too. Considering the time they had to figure out what they would do without Brian, I commend them. (Look at my fuggin' dogs..all able and stuff.) The crowd were a little closer for The Prayers and they were recieved well. Really well. The only reasons I think the crowd got a little closer and offered a warmer reception were that they were drunker, and the place was filling and there was less room.
After The Prayers, Dimitri and Ryan (Booty Bassment) started their thing. The place was all full and shit and the dancefloor was packed. Dimitri and Ryan are amongst my favorite djs by the way. So good at what they do and far more original than the cookie cutter djs you find in most dance clubs. They played a ton of soul, oldies and hip hop. Rap and junk. I want to work with them in the future. Oh shit. BOOTY KONTROL @ THE CASBAH SAN DIEGO TOMORROW NIGHT WITH THE PRAYERS, ROMAN SPRING AND BOOTY/SKULL DJS. HA.

After the bar closed we hung out and drank and I got a chance to chat with the owner. I'm was real pleased with his appreciation of the night. He asked if we'd be interested in coming back in any capacity. So I think I'm going to try and set up a night once a month. I'm telling you, this place rules. They pay really well too. And give free drinks? Maybe I was in heaven and NOT The Knockout.

San Fran, Frisco, SF and "The City"

This San Francisco trip on Friday has hit some (como se dice) road bumps. We hate to announce that Brian Hill of The Prayers has had to pull out of the trip due to a family obligation. The Prayers have decided to make the shows and perform them acoustically.

So if you had planned on coming to the shows, we look forward to seeing you. The Vultures, The Prayers, The Muslims and ye olde Skullz. 2 shows/parties. Details posted on an older post and reminder will come Thursday.

Tonight I'm going to Live Wire. Matt from the Muslims and Andrew from The Prayers are "djing" tonight. I think Matt just got some Velvet Underground reissues...

Weekend starts on Thursday, over on Monday...

This weekend was packed full of crap, and it's all over bless the lord. We played 3 show for our record release weekend: thursday as The Smiths, and then friday and saturday as the plain old Prayers at The Che Cafe, and The Beauty Bar respectively. Thanks to everyone who came and made all the nights a blast. And thanks to the Smiths fans who accepted our Smiths/Moz covers, your all very kind.

We also shot a music video for "Clandestino" at our empty apartment (that we are now moved out of) friday morning with our talented friend Felipe. He had a bunch of 16mm film lying around cause he's cool like that, and Matt from The Muslims had a day left of UCSD film school before he graduated and rented us all the necessary stuff (i.e. a camera, lights, cables etc.) for free cause he's cool like that. Thanks Matt. We shot it in the morning then went back to sleep. I think the video will be cool. It was the first time any of us had shot a music video and it's literally impossible to take yourself seriously (J.T. how do you do it?) We'll post the video when it's done. Fast forward to sunday morning and we're like "duuuude" cause everything is over and now we have to move out of our apartment that, as of tonight, mario, brandon, and myself no longer live in. so we did that, then monday we did it some more, and now at 12:53am my weekend it over.

Next weekend? The Muslims and Finally Punk at Tower Bar. Summer is good.

Celebration time // SO SO sick // Moving // Prayersmania

The skullz have not been very loving to the blogosphere. It's because this magic weekend includes three record release parties, we're moving, I have the flu, The Prayers taped their first video and on top of that we're lazy. Look for full reports on all these things soon, after the weekend. Minus my sickness, that's my business.
