Matt And Kim / Best Fwends / Crocodiles

Tonight there's a ridiculous show in San Diego. NYC's Matt And Kim, Austin's Best Fwends and SD's Crocodiles. I love Best Fwends. For an obscenely energetic time, go to this either tonight in my beloved San Diego or one of the other god damned cities this tour hits.

And as a good hearted special bonus, leave a comment here with your name and last initial and I'll put you on the guest list. Limit.....THREE!!

Spiritualized And Grand Ole Party To Tour Together

As if this is the place to find "news". Ha, could you imagine? But surely you are. San Diego's lil' hitmakers are going on tour with one of my favorites in the whole god damned world. I love Spacemen 3 and Spriritualized. So it starts in a couple weeks. I think September 7 in Detroit.

The Strange Boys Take California September 9 'N' 11

Oh shit. One of my favorite bands is coming to the west coast. Strange Boys. Last time these young chaps came to California it was a riot. A racket even. And this time their on tour with Touch & Go's latest signing, Crystal Antlers. I think this tour is going to be massive for them. So the fliers above are for the San Francisco and San Diego shows.

And here's a lil' god damned taste of The Strange Boys filmed in March at Austin's Psych Fest:

Video Rewind : TV Party By Black Flag

Sure, sure, Henry Rollins is my least favorite of all the Black Flag singers. And their first four years had the best music. And Damaged was far tougher than this song. But holmes. Homedog. Home slap. HOMESLICE. This song was FUN. C'mon...Black Flag with hand claps? I mean it sounds fun to me.

More On These Past Lives Shows...

So, as Mario mentioned, Past Lives will be playing our night, Too Many Creeps, this Sunday at Whistlestop. It's free, and no one works the next day cuz it's Uncle Sam's way of saying "Thanks" for all of our collective hard work. Like, I get bit and defecated on and punched out at my work sometimes, I deserve a G.D. thank-you. This event is 21 and up and is going to be completely bananas. Del Monte was even thinking about throwing a few bones our way to sponser this shit. If your under 21, have no fear; Past Lives will be playing the next day at the Che Cafe for a mere $7. Isn't that basically one day's lunch money these days? It'll be with Crocodiles again, plus Sex Jerks and the Muslims as an extra added bonus. Both of these events are going to be nuts.
Crocodiles played with Past Lives in Seattle, so I can personally vouch for them. They're ex members of Blood Brothers and in my humble opinion, I think they've topped all their previous projects. They were amazing live when I saw them and their songs are fun and catchy yet still interesting. You'll be stoked. Don't be a bozo and miss these, cuz they may not be back for a while.

Cold Cave Set To Release New 12"

New Cold Cave 12" is about to be released. I pre ordered mine and I think it'd be cool if you copy catted me and did the same. The Trees Grew Emotions Died is the shit. I don't know. You should decide for your own damn self I guess. But isn't the whole point to having a blog that you are sheep and I'm like a pied piper of sorts? Some kind of taste maker? I'm just playing. But anyway, these are limited to 500 and like every other Wes Eisold project, these will be snapped up in two shakes of a lamb's tail I guarantee.

The Dark Crystal

Yesterday was my birthday, and my brother got me a really cool present. The Dark Crystal dvd. Fuck, man, I loved this movie when I was a kid. Star Wars meets The Muppets. What a combo. The god damned evil Skeksis and the gentle Mystics. And who could forget the Gelfings? You gotta love the Gelflings. If you haven't seen this movie you should maybe. Or who knows maybe you'll think its gay.

A Good Day

Today was a damn good day. I woke up in my big ol' bed all alone and comfortable. I got up, sipped on a hot cup and read the local fish wrap. Then this monkey of a gal hollered and we agreed on mexican food and the beach. Not a bad combo. So we strolled to this place in San Diego called Pokez Mexican Restaurant. It's pretty good. After being stuffed to max cap (that means maximum capacity), we went to Ocean Beach. In San Diego we use initials for everything so let's call it O.B.. We went to O.B. and I fell asleep on the god damned sand. Now I'm home fuilly relaxed and sporting a gorgeous golden brown coat. I really love my city and I think you should visit and see what I mean.

On the way home this little cotton pickin' jam was on the radio. Just for extra added bonus.

Gary Glitter Freed After Fucking Children

Big ol' Gary Glitter was released from some god forsaken jungle prison two days ago. I thought he was going to jail for life. Sheez, you can really go F kids in those countries(Cambodia, Vietnam), multiple times and still get out to F another day? Mother of god. I personally prefer the traditional f-ing.

And you wonder why he didn't try the traditional method? This guy is creepy and ugly as all get out. Nice cut though, right? Shit, should this jam be boycotted?

Ice Cube: The Longshots Vs. Kill At Will

What the fuck, man. This shit just ain't right. I know Ice Cube's bad period has now lasted more than the good. I get it. It's like Metallica. But for some reason I just can't help but be shocked when I see Cube make a corny smile into the camera. Or a horrbly written one liner. The Longshots. Fuck.

I mean I grew up on this! Dead Homiez. He was so tough for two...three records post Niggaz With Attitude. What a prick. Oh shit I forgot about Kill At Will. So it's FOUR records. And how many turkeys since? I lost count.

The Bluesbusters Saved Me From Boredom

I've been bored with music it seems this week. I've not listened to much at all since the weekend. So I decided to organize some records and file some that I've bought and never put away. Sometimes I forget what I've gotten and it reminds me of something new. And yes, it's pretty sickening...they go in genres, and in alphabetical order. Anyway, so I found this stack that I totally forgot I bought a bit ago and it was jam packed with records I was ecstatic to hear. The first one, was Dance The Ska Vol 4 which is a collection of the Jamaican vocal group The Bluesbusters, partnered with bandleader and band, Byron Lee & The Dragonaires. It's like Sam & Dave over a fast ska rhythm. So good. This era of ska sounds so fresh to me and these recordings, I believe, were from somewhere between 1959 and 1964. Anyway, I'm not bored anymore and I'm about to listen to another gem, Prince Buster featuring The Maytals.

Behold - The Blues Busters

There are two other songs you can listen to on this fake The Bluesbusters "Myspace Account".

Get Your War On Video Episodes

I am so excited about this, and sure, I'm a couple weeks late but whatever right? So they've animated these new Get Your War On strips. I mean they are new ones, rather. not animated versions of old ones. Here's the premiere. There's also a promo and a second episode on the site that's hosting these, 236.com . Look forward to one new one a week.

And here's an old strip that I like:

Bad Brains' Pay To Cum 1979 At CBGB's

This song and video never ceases to make me happy. And if it doesn't work for you you can go to hell. Cuz it's perfect boss and that's that.

Want to sing along? Ok:

I make decision with precision
Lost inside this manned collision
Just to see that what is to be
Perfectly my fantasy

I came to know with now dismay
That in this world we all must pay
Pay to write, pay to play
Pay to cum, pay to fight

And all in time,
With just our minds
We soon will find
What's left behind

Not long ago when things were slow
We all got by with what we know
The end is near. Hearts filled with fear
Don't want to listen to what they hear

And so it's now we choose to fight
To stick up for our bloody right
The right to sing, the right to dance
The right is ours... We'll take the chance

A peace together
A piece apart
A piece of wisdom
From our hearts

Kool-Aid

It was hot today in San Diego. I mean I thought it was hot so don't go arguing about how I don't KNOW what hot is. I hate when people that do that shit. Anyways, I was hot. And I was also super duper lazy. So I marched my big ol' butt down to Kwik Stops (mexicans pluralize everything) in order to get me a cool drink. Fuck ME man, I had no idea they still had those little Kool-Aid packets. 30 cents!! So I grabbed me some. Like ten. You would be sick if you saw how much sugar you have to add. Seriously gross, but so fucking good. When I was a tot my moms ordered that pitcher for me. You know the one? It's shaped like that Kool-Aid dude. I was kinda bummed cuz it was a frosty lookin' plastic version, not the nice glass one in the commercials.

New Video Works Dvd Comp - PPM 17

I'm pretty excited about the new PPM dvd, "New Video Works", coming out on August 19th. It features performances and videos by ABE VIGODA, BARR, BLACK BLACK, DEERHUNTER, ERASE ERRATA, FINALLY PUNK, HAWNAY TROOF, HIGH PLACES, DAVID HORVITZ, JAPANTHER, KIT, LUCKY DRAGONS, MIKA MIKO, NO AGE, POCAHAUNTED, THE SADS, SILVER DAGGERS, SISSY SPACEK, SOFT BOILED EGGIES, SOFT CIRCLE, SOILED MATTRESS AND THE SPRINGS, DAVID SCOTT STONE AND XIU XIU. Pretty sick right? In celebration of this monster release (PPM 17), we're throwing a screening party at our new night, Too Many Creeps!! PPM's Mika Miko are coming down to present the dvd screening at 9pm at the Whistle Stop. Then after the screening they are guest djing all kinds of awesome shit. Punker tunes you know? So it all happens on Sunday August 10 in San Diego. A full 9 days before the rest of the world gets to see it!! Shit.

Crocodiles Release "Neon Jesus" Video

So here it is ladies and germs. The sound of Crocodiles. In video form. If you've followed Crocs for the last few months of their short existence, you may have noticed they have yet to post music on their Myspace account. It is little known that they've actually been recording pretty diligently. They've resisted releasing any so that they could present their music in a more original format. San Diego's Christin Turner directed this thing. It's good and think you'll like it. If you do, their 7" is available for ordering on their Myspace thing.

Adbusters - The Dead End Of Civilization

“So… this is a hipster party?” I ask the girl sitting next to me. She’s wearing big dangling earrings, an American Apparel V-neck tee, non-prescription eyeglasses and an inappropriately warm wool coat.

“Yeah, just look around you, 99 percent of the people here are total hipsters!”

“Are you a hipster?”

“Fuck no,” she says, laughing back the last of her glass before she hops off to the dance floor.

Haha, so there is a wonderful article in the current issue of Adbusters. Charlie clued me in on it last week and I was just able to get my hands on it this evening. I smiled within the first couple paragraphs. It's an essay analyzing the culture of the "hipster", and details how in generations prior to the current one, there has always been a counterculture from which great artists, songs, literature and ideas were born. Until now. Today there are oodles v-necked, vacant bozos creating nothing, inspiring no one and wallowing in their club photo "celebrity". I know my city is crawling with these kinda guys and gals. Yours too right? Read the article online with the link below. You'll either feel good or feel guilty. Judging by the overwhelming comments below the article, most may get bummed. At Adbusters, and possibly at me. Whatever.

A Better Poster Than Before

Ok, truth be told i wasn't too stoked on my Too many Creeps monkey poster. So yesterday I marched my big ol' butt down to the ol' Kinko's, er, FedEx Office. Doesn't have the same ring but whatever. Anyway, this is what came from my labors. I'm a bit more pleased. San Diego, you lucky ducks.

No Paws (No Lions)

So Riverside has only ever reminded me of one thing. The time I went with my dad at age 12 to a Martin Luther King Day softball tournament in Riverside and witnessd two white dads beat the fuck out of a black kid. Until now!! No Paws (No Lions) come from there and they're fantastic. I swear the song below is so stuck in my head it's ridiculous. I seriously listened to it 10 times at least today alone. Keyboards, drums two guys and a frickin' gal. Keep it simple and keep it jam packed with melodies and I'm straight.

Greatest Punk Lp Art / Gray Matter's Food For Thought

Last night that fool Nate was over at my house and we was sitting in the ol' patio drinking and carrying on. Amongst other things, we were chatting about the upcoming Fantastic Magic / Ye Olde Maids split 12" lp and what we're going to do for art. We were running through our favorite sleeves from years gone by when I thought of this humdinger. I went in and dragged it out of the ol' archives and we just tripped. Tripped on how perfect it is. It has to be in my top ten record sleeves of all time. And the lp inside? Oh dear. Here's a lil' taste of the perfect sound of Gray Matter's Food For Thought Lp (Dischord, 1984).

phobias - Gray Matter

p.s. If anyone can do this kind of sleeve art. Pencil or ink that is. Please holler at skullkontrol@gmail.com. I have work for you.
