?

I bought the new Peaches/Tone Loc Remix today and haven't decided if I'm a full blown fool or not. I have three copies of the old 1988 one and it's seeming WAYYY cooler than newly released Peaches remix of it. I'll have to marinate, but just know that I'm feeling very odd right now. (BTW, I hate super hardcore Peaches fans. They kinda suck, right? How much cooler would homegirl be if she had passed away due to the drugs and then there wouldn't be a scene around her, just a fun and stoopid record. One can only dream.)

Delicious Vinyl celebrates 20 years with this new 12" release and there's more on the way. Check it.

No Presents For Christmas

I have this terrific 12" record. The tough ass logo in nice holiday green and red. Released in 1985, our beloved King Diamond recorded this single and joined the ranks of Bing Crosby, Elmo & Patsy, The Chipmunks and Burl Ives in creating the backdrop to a most pleasant holiday season. This and other gorgeous Christmas cuts will be a plenty tomorrow night at Skull Kontrol. And let's give the 'tude and the smart mouths a break folks, Big Baby Jesus is BORN.

Blah, blah blah, Skull Kontrol @ Live Wire, tomorrow December 20th, free yada yada 21+ or whatever.

Trill Niggaz Don't Die

I found this on Pimp C's Myspace. So nice for his handlers to create such a poignant send off. Anyone can mourn Pimp C by just doing the ol' copy and paste technique.

The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower have posted a new song from their upcoming posthumous release, Saviours & Suckers. It's called "Keys To Your Skull". It's available to listen only on their Myspace account. Look for the release of the entire final recordings, an ep, very soon in 2008.

NO AGE On VBS TV

Oops. I forgot to post this. The fine folks at Vice Magazine sent me this in November. I'm posting it now. NO AGE was featured on VBS.TV's Practice Space show. VBS TV is Vice's online TV channel. The feature's good so check it.

Here are some notes by Practice Space host Ryan Duffy:

"The No Age episode of Practice Space sort of felt like cheating, what with the guys being from LA and doing most of their practicing out there. But their surge of popularity and resulting tour schedule necessitated a NYC practice space as well, and the fact that they just happen to be the two nicest kids on Earth made it quite easy to find a friend willing to donate some room in his wood shop. Far be it from us to pass up a chance to hang with one of the more exciting bands in the states on a hometown technicality." -Ryan Duffy

In Honor Of Big Baby Jesus

This Thursday is the 2007 X-Mas edition of Skull Kontrol. It should be bananas. We're giving away jingle bells too. Real live GODDAMN jingle fucking balls. With red and green pipe cleaners to wrap that shit around your wrist. This set me back $10.43, so I hope you appreciate it. Also, mixed in to all the rad and loud punk, rap and crap, there'll be the odd xmas song thrown in for good measure. And we've been stocking up! WE got The Chipmunks xmas record, the fuckin' Run DMC xmas song, the Mariah Carey xmas song. Even Dr. Demento's xmas record (a classic). All this in honor of Big Baby Jesus. See ya there fuckface.

Oh yeah!! And get there early to grab a booth and listen to the musical tastes of Branden and Derek of The Atoms.

Old News

As I wrote on here a couple months ago, The Blood Brothers broke up. When I originally wrote that post somebody got all smart mouth on the comments section. So I just thought I'd repost the farewell letter left by The BBs to their fans.

Dear Friends,

After 10 years of making music as The Blood Brothers, we have made the collective decision that our time together has come to an end. We feel extremely fortunate to have spent such a deeply memorable and amazing part of our lives with each other. At this point, however, we feel it's best that our futures move forward on separate paths. We'd like to express our sincerest thanks and gratitude to all the bands we've played with, individuals who have helped us make our records, and fans who have come to our shows and picked up our music throughout the years. Your friendship, support and love hold such a profoundly special place in each of our hearts. We hope that the memories you attach to our music are as fond as those you have given us. Thank you and take care, we'll miss all of you.

Love,
The Blood Brothers

I have to admit I'm going to miss these fools coming to town. Brandon, Chuck and I set up after parties for the last couple San Diego shows and they were always bananas. They were a good band but more so they are great people. And fun as shit.

Tonight. Party time.

Shit. It's time to shake your shit tonight!! Solid Gold down at The Tower Bar. Shit shit shit. Soul 45s, crazy soul stompin' classics, and more. 60s 60s 60s. And live bands and shit too. The BEST bands. The Muslims and Fantastic Magic. Yikes. SOOO many reasons to go to the Tower Bar. Bye.

Wu Tops

So let's get back to this Wu thing. I was trying to figure out my lil' top 5 or 10 records and one thing was clearly evident. You know which one I HATE? Method Man. Fuck he sucks. His rhymes not only make no sense, they're not funny. Of course he's had a shining moment or two but so has Nelly. I mean I like "Grillz" as much as the next guy but it doesn't mean the man don't suck. And suck hard if I might add.

(Btw, this is personal so don't yell at me. Make your own GOT damn list.)

1. Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) - Wu Tang Clan

2. Pretty Toney Album - Ghostface

3. RZA As Bobby Digital - RZA

4. Liquid Swords - GZA

5. Return To The 36 Chambers - Ol' Dirty Bastard

6. Only Built For Cuban Linx - Raekwon The Chef

7. Supreme Clientele - Ghostface Killah

8. Wu-Tang Forever - Wu-Tang Clan

9. Iron Man - Ghostface Killah

10. Nigga Please - Ol' Dirty Bastard

11. Fishscale - Ghostface Killah

12. Digital Bullets - RZA As Bobby Digital

13. The W - Wu-Tang Clan

14. Iron Flag - Wu-Tang Clan

15. Uncontrolled Substance - Inspektah Deck

Top 15. These are the tops amongst the ones I like. And, no, I don't like The Gravediggaz. Everyone does I know, but I actually might HATE it. And the new Ghost, I left off cuz I haven't formed a real relationship with it yet. Umm, what else...I don't like The Pillage by Cappadonna or any of those Killa Beez comps. I wanted to add the Ghost Dog Soundtrack because I LOVE it but wasn't sure if I should. Just count it as #16, the bonus cut.

Big Show Announcement: 3/10/08

Monday, March 10, 2008. Crystal Castles of Canada, Health of Los Angeles, The Muslims of San Diego and Los Angeles and records by me. At The Casbah in San Diego. Diverse as F. Have you heard the CC remix of Health on the new 7"? Well it's fucking good. If you don't know, now you know.

We'll most likely have the new Muslims double A side 7" single on Art Fag too...although by saying that I bet I cursed it to not be available till next June.

Mo' Ike Rememberance

I saw this fool once. I was at a James Brown concert over at ye olde Humphrey's(?) by the bay. It was a great JB show, but my favorite part of the whole night was when this son of a B, Ike Turner, walked on stage, guitar strapped on, plugged himself in, played a solo and walked off. Never did he once look at James Brown OR the crowd. It was pretty bad ass.

It's a shame he sullied his fucking name by doing those beatings. Fucking idiot. Realistically, his obit will always read: "Rock & Roll Creator And Shameful Ogre Of A Man...Ike Turner 1931-2007". Fucking idiot, but damn the music was unfuckwittable.

Like Brandon said, come show some 'spects for the music tomorrow night at Tower. I have two I can't WAIT to play.

RIP Ike Turner

Ike Turner died today in San Diego, aged 76.

His whole horrific drug-monster, wife beating thing hugely overshadowed his numerous contributions to blues, soul and girl groups. Plus homeboy basically invented rock and roll. (Well...him and a few other cats. See "Rocket 88" - that's 1951!)

Come to Tower Bar tomorrow night and help us pay our respects.

Solid Gold SOUL Dance Party This Thursday W/ The Muslims And Fantastic Magic

The second installment of a new soul and oldies dance party is this Thursday @ The Tower Bar. Solid Gold. The Muslims and Fantastic Magic are playing LIVE and Brandon Welchez and myself will be playing the best rare soul and classic favorites to dance to. All 60s, all uptempo scorchers.

It's going to start early so keep that in mind. Also, this is a monthly party taking place on the second Thursday of every month, so fire that in your goddamn domes.

For All You Smart Dumb Cats Out There

For those of you that read this regularly (god forbid), you probably notice that I get into a kick every now and then. Right now, I'm on a Wu-Tang kick. Last night I must have watched hours of footage on Youtube. And then I went to ebay to see what all my records are worth, and then back to Youtube to review my favorites.

My all time favorite emcees list would have to include Ghostface and RZA. Nobody on this planet has a brain like the brain that these fools house in their big ol' dome pieces..

Why I WIsh I Could Talk To Ghost Everyday

RZA, GZA And Bill Murray In Jim Jarmusch's "Coffee And Cigarettes"

God damn that shit is great. So listen. Ghostface's new album, The Big Doe Rehab, came out last Tuesday. A new Wu-Tang album, 8 Diagrams, and a new RZA/Bobby Digital album, DigiCakes come out soon but no official date available. Later on, I'll post my favorite songs from the Youtubes and my official Top Wu records (as if you give a care).

Winter Wonderland With A Keg...Tonight

Dance party provided by your favorite dick jockeys, Mario Orduno, Sir Charles, Brandon Welchez and Jeff Graves.

Ebert, Siskel, Roper Y Orduno

Saw the Dylan movie the other day. "I'm Not There". Eh. It was good. But it was good for like the first 80%, then I thought it dragged. All 6 "Dylans" were great in their roles. They were actually 6 different characters inspired by Bob Dylan. I mean there was a little black boy as one so you see what I mean? Inspired. But ok, it was good. Some scenes were brilliant even. It's just not a brilliant movie.

Tonigt I saw "Romance & Cigarettes". It was on a whim. I didn't even know a thing about it except for that Susan Sarandon, James Gandolfini and Kate Winslet were in it. And it was written and directed by John Turturro. Oh, and Christoper Walken and Steve Buscemi were in it too. Other than that, I knew nothing. Guess what holmes. It was GOOD. And it's partly a musical! It's really out there at times. It's about love and stuff. Anyway, it was great. Oh, shit I almost forgot to say that it's also hillarious.

That's this week's installment. Thank you Landmark and all my favorite people that work there.

Pimp C, R.I.P.

Oh no. One half of Houston rap duo UGK is gone. The group behind "International Player's Anthem", one of my favorite singles this year is gone. How he died has not been released by the coroner's office but he was found dead in a hotel on Sunset in Los Angeles.

You may remember this GOT damn classic, the Big Pimpin' single by Jay-Z featuring UGK.

Don't forget to pour your beer out and stuff.

Sexual Eruption

Big Snoop Dogg. What the f? This song is ridiculous. What the hell. He's back on the pot? You could only make a song and video like this if you're back on the pot. I hate the pot, by the way. But I am very seductive cat, and that's probably why song this speaks to me. But back to the video. The voice box tube in his MOUF? Ha. And the damn dance moves! Alright, I'll get off his nuts.

Snoop's Sensual Seduction

Skull Kontrol @ Live Wire Tonight Man

Oooooo wee. Tonight is going to be absurd. Records and FUN. Drinks. Carrying on. Playing the fool. Getting stupid. Same as it ever was. Skull Kontrol @ Live Wire in San Diego tonight. Super duper punk n things.

Please Throw A Shekel The Locust's Way

The Locust's van was broken into and robbed in St Louis over the weekend at a grocery store after the show. Many valuable items were stolen (COMPUTERS, IPODS, CASH, PASSPORTS, RENT MONEY, ETC) and the loss has been devastating to the band. The bands insurance does not cover theft so the loss is on The Locust. Three One G has set up a way to donate to the band if you are interested. Click this link to make a donation!!! Thanks so much.

HELP THE LOCUST

Official statement from Mario Orduno, "This is chickenshit."

Rock Goggle Fantasy is back. Maybe?

You're probably asking yourself who or what the fuck I'm talking about? Rock Goggle Fantasy was a band from Manhattan Beach who ended a few years ago and who played San Diego only a handful of times, and each time to only a handful of people. My old band, however, had the benefit of meeting them early on in both our "careers" (haha) and we ended up being able to play lots of shows together and even did a bit of touring. They were totally fun cats, and when they were around, stood head and shoulders above any other punk band in California. Listen for yourself; I always thought they sounded like Red Cross fronted by Chris Thomson. And they "smoked" live. (Not as in They smoked cigarettes on stage while they played, but rather, They were fucking good.)
Anyway, I ran into the whole band a few weekends ago and they said they're practicing again. Hopefully that means more shows can't be far away. They were tragically ignored in San Diego the first time around; maybe this time it'll be different.

Listen to the song "Tootsie Roll Pop Art".
Rock Goggle Fantasy's Myspace

New Title!! 3 Cities. Rad Bands And Stuff.

The Muslims, NO AGE, Strange Boys, The Carrots, Finally Punk, The Prayers, Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda, Kill Me Tomorrow, The Sess, Soft Boiled Eggies and Best Fwends. Rad newish music, all from Los Angeles, San Diego and Austin.

Best Fwends

I saw them in August at Fuck Yeah Fest in LA. To be frank I wasn't in the mood. I didn't give a flying fuck. No offense to them at all I was just in my own irritated zone. Plus I had just eaten a real nice sandwich and would have preferred to be sitting somewheres comfortable and quiet. You have to eat at Masa right outside the Echo in LA. You'll know what I mean and understand how Best Fwends might not have been the musica de choice for me at the time.

Anyways, guess what!!! I'm in the mood now. And I really like this song. It's obnoxious and catchy at the same time. The album came out this year, this 7" came out last year. Album's called Alphabetically Arranged, the 7" is called EP 2. Song's called Skate Or Live.

They're on Moshi Moshi Records from The UK. No links. Too sleeeeeeepy. Link your own shit holmes. And these fools is on Myspace too, so peep that shit. Night.

Skin Deep

Here is a slice of Madness-inspired pop from a very young Mick Whitnall. It's 1988, he was 20 years old, and the name of the band was Skin Deep. It takes a while for the actual song to kick off, wait about 30 seconds or so. And Mick is the one on the couch wearing braces and then the one playing guitar wearing a blazer. Eh. Noish.

Big Dance Party This Wednesday

Big gigantic dance party is more like it, actually. Judging from how huge the NO KONTROL/Strange Boys night was on Friday at The Whistle Stop, this Wednesday should be bananas. Nobody works on Thursday too!! Something about giving thanks to Squanto. You see this Squanto dude taught all the pilgrims how to catch eel and grow corn and stuff. He also served as the pilgrims interpreter. Fuckin' Squanto. What a great kid. Anyways, now we get a big dance party on Wednesday!!

The Strange Boys From Austin Texas

'ello everybody good evening. This is your fireside chat for the night. I have an idea! Let's talk about The Strange Boys from Austin, Texas. They are a four piece twisted combo with loads of talent, songs and showmanship. They are currently in Southern California and have shows set up all week and weekend with the likes of NO AGE, The Prayers, Mika Miko, Jay Reatard and Part Time Punks. In San Diego they are booked with the fantastic Fantastic Magic at the NO KONTROL party this Friday at The Whistle Stop. DJs Me and Andrew Miller (of The Prayers) are all like dance party usa afterwards. It's free and 21+. It's also quite historic and rad.

The Carrots // New Favorite Band

A while back I set up a show for Finally Punk, an all girl punk band from Austin, Texas. I was excited to do it and it was a great night. They were super fun and great to hang out with.

Little did I know they had a secret and it was better than Finally Punk! Well, not better, that's not fair. Finally Punk are awesome. But holy shit you gotta meet The Carrots! It's 3/4 of Finally Punk with 3 more members totaling 6. They play pop music influenced by 60s girl groups. I was immediately sucked in to their songs. They perform in matching outfits and they're cute as fuck. Even the dudes in the band. You can't play this music and NOT be cute.

And Veronica's last name is Ortuno, which is one letter away from Orduno.

Pease check this here link for their Myspace

M.I.A.

Last night's show at Cane's was fun. Everyone was in a good mood. There were dummies everywhere to make fun of. I perfectly missed the opening band and waited but a mere 15 minutes before M.I.A. started. The sound SUCKED. Paper Planes was meant to give me chills and instead I barely heard the melody. Just feedback and a drum machine. Such a shame. But whatever.

It's time to be mean. Why is it that people dress like they think they should for a particular show? You're telling me you REALLY wear turquoise and gold daily? You REALLY wear Golden Girls type action wear daily? You know, the kind that almost looks like paper. You REALLY wear fake gold around your neck, huge shades and ugly track outfits daily? I don't think you do, holmes, and you should be ashamed of yourself. You're not a star. Nobody wants your picture. Nobody wants a peek in your closet. You suck actually. You actually offer nothing to society. You read about people like M.I.A., not you dog. Just some shots from the dome. Keep on keepin' on though. Whatever floats your boat.

Anyway, I shot some photos of the crowd, and here are a few of my faves.

Skull Kontrol This Week

That's right peoples. Time to put your party hats on. This Thursday in beautiful sunny and (at times) chilly San Diego. Sure, sure, you can count on noisy ear hole cleaners, bassy butt rap, the sweetest in power pop, the obscurest of 45s, and more music you need in your life. You know what? I need to start posting set lists. That way you get what we're doing over here. It's very important, you know. Crucial. Ok, I'll think about it.

The Future Is Unwritten

And evidently Joe Strummer's past is BORING. Fuck me, man. Snooze ALERT. The Future Is Unwritten is so fucking boring I fell asleep during the "good" part. The Clash portion. I almost want everyone to see it so that I can get a little feedback.

Man oh man the preview made it look good. And directed by Julien Temple?? What the hell happened? I'll tell you what happened. Joe Strummer was a boring ass son of a gun that had an incredible voice and even more incredible lyrics.

Let me break down some notables.

Johnny Depp (??) interviewed in full pirate's regalia. Why Johnny Depp? And why in pirate's garb? You're really going to force me to watch those double chin braids dangle while trying to get a lil' info on The Clash?

Steve Buscemi, Anthony Kiedis, Martin Scorcese interviewed? Why? Fuck it, let's trot out Bill Cosby, Duane "Dog" Chapman and Paula Poundstone for their take on the dude.

Listen to me. STOP interviewing Bono for these films. PLEASE. I've had enough. Do you know he said the exact same thing in the Morrissey doc that he said in the New Order doc? How lame is that? He called both Ian Curtis and Morrissey "an orginal of the species". Fuck you Bono Vox.

Ok, biggest notable. No Paul Simenon. Says a lot if you ask me.

Here's your trailer, but don't be fooled, the trailer rules. The movie SUCKS.

For better examples of Julien Temple's good work see The Great Rock & Roll Swindle, The Filth And The Fury, The Babyshambles "Blinding" video, and the "God Save The Queen" promo video.

Not only do you get Jeremy Jay's record release party for "Airwalker" out this week on K Records, but you get a soul N oldies dance party. Very special. Sweaty ass loud FUN.

We'll also have giveaways from the legendary K Records including "Airwalker" by Jeremy Jay.

Daft Cunts

Soooooooooooooooo. Saw Control tonight. It was good. 4/5. Grade A. Every shot looked cool as f....you know what? Enough with the cussing. Every shot was cool as heck. Anton Corbijn did an great job. It LOOKED so good. But it wasn't just about the look. The musical performances were perfect too. Whether it be the live stuff or the studio recording footage. "What's his face" WAS Ian Curtis. I can say that because ol' Ian was a very close and personal friend of mine. Oh the days. We'd throw on our pea coats and just skip down the boulevard to the local pub. But I digress.

So, whatever, go see it because I liked it. I'm now very fearful of the Germs movie, What We Do Is Secret. What a crime. Damn it looks stupid. It looks like a teen movie. Bijou Phillips as Lorna Doom? So sad.

Hey!! Let's compare the trailers for some Skull Kontrol BLOG fun!

Control

What We Do Is Secret

Talk amongst yourselves. And don't start no debate on whether Darby Crash and The Germs were lamer than Ian Curtis and Joy Division. Blah blah blah. Who cares? The Germs come from waves and sun, and Joy Division come from grey skies and rain. Both are great. I'm talking about the treatment of the stories based on these here movies/trailers.

Again, tonight's movie, Control was great.

Tonight. Party time.

I kinda hate Halloween. The costume shit is too much for me to get with. I know people love it and everything...gets 'em all giddy. But it's just something I don't want to think about. Walking around with a sword or make up on my face seems annoying and tedious. I'll tell you what really gets my goat is these peckers that are wearing a mask and they come up to you and say, "Hi.". And you don't know who they are and they stand there like a PRICK. Fuck you holmes, I'm walking away. Not enough time on this dear planet for you. How 'bout the gals who decide on a costume and then kick it up a notch with the slut/naughty factor. Like, "I'm going to be a Woodchuck!!", and then she shows up with like a square inch of fur, maybe some buck teeth and boobs and thighs EVERYWHERE. Lastly my dear males. I hate you. How many years are you going to answer to your lack of creativity by being a girl. It's not funny, it never was. By the way, I AM a happy person I just cuss and complain alot. It MAKES me happy.

So, anywayz, come to this crap tonight maybe. Hear The Muslims perform their upcoming double A side on Art Fag.

Skull Kontrol Flier And A Couple Points

Two points I want to make. Firstly, don't gimme no shit because you are going out on Wednesday for Halloween so you can't make it to Skull Kontrol on Thursday. That's chickenshit. We do these as a service to the community. So drag yourself out of your GOT damn house and make it to Live Wire on Thursday. Also, The Prayers will be back from England, so that means big Charles will be my partner in crime, bless his heart. Can't wait to see him. So come out and show some fucking respect.

Halloween Spooktacular Flier

There comes a point in ones life when he/she must accept his /her gifts. When he/she must thank the heavenly Father for granting these gifts. I have, and my gift is apparently art.

Big Friday N What Have You

So tonight's big show. Fuck it. The Muslims are playing and that's always special. They have chops. What the hell ARE chops anyway? I should ask performer extraordinaire, Morgan Young. He seems like he would know something like that. I once asked him what the fuck "in the pocket" meant, and he had this lengthy Wiki style answer for me. Chops. Anyway, Muslims have the nicest chops. And A.M.? From LA. Super good. Check them at their Myspace profile. And I'm playing records. It gets redundant doesn't it? NO. It doesn't. The Muslims are going to help out and play some too I think.

In MORE Muslims and Art Fag news, I'll be releasing a 7" single by the talented youngsters next year. It was played for me last weekend during a delirious blackout, but I think it's good. Whatever, I have money to burn so who cares. I must have money to burn having released a Plot record a cool 3 months before they call it quits. So, Matty and Matt, give me your best song and then break up. Anyway, 7"...by The Muslims on Art Fag Recordings later.

Current shit I listen to ad nauseum. It's pop.

R.E.M.: I can't stop and it's becoming an issue.

Beat Happening: It might become an issue.

Lemonheads: You say what the fuck? I say, been an issue for a decade. I don't have to prove anything, holmes. The shit is catchy. And the Taang shit? It's good fuckface. But I actually can't stop listening to "Come On Feel The Lemonheads".

The Clash: Gates Of The West. It's their best song and I can listen to it on repeat for about 4 times.

Wrangler Brutes, "ZULU". Not really an issue, but perfect and brutal. Please investigate.

Anyway. Tower Bar tonight. Don't forget your party cap. Or is it hat?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Disturbing.

Blah blah blah. Another weekend right around the corner. Finally a fun thing to do. The Muslims are playing at The Tower Bar over here in San Diego. Sure, sure. A.M. is playing too. There's a link below I suggest you check out N shit. They're good. I'm playing records too. Fuck it. SO, to help get the word out, I went ahead and started playing with my colors. The result is quite disturbing. You realize I'm full grown, right?

Check out A.M. here!!

No Bloggies Doggies.

Either sick as fuck or drunk in the UK. That's the status.

The Equals.

The Equals are one of my all time faves. Remember Eddy Grant? Electric Avenue? Well holmes had a band in the 60s N 70s called The Equals. Remember The Clash's "Police On My Back"? Guess what boss, it's an Equals song. You can't deny how good they were. One listen and you'll be HOOKED. SO catchy. They're called The Equals because there are 3 black dudes and 2 white guys in the band. And blacks and whites are equal and shit. Browns are one step up from the both of them, but I digress. Check thisssssssss.

7 Tracks On The Dome

Or cuts. You like it when people say "cut" instead of song? Example: "That was Smells LIke Teen Spirit, first cut off the Nevermind long player."

Anyway. These cuts are on my mind, and I hope to share them tomorrow night at Skull Kontrol.

1."Cherish" Madonna cover by The Prayers, taken from upcoming tribute on Manimal Vinyl (LA).

2. "Dear Lady Twist" by Gary "US" Bonds, FUCK!! I can't get this fool outta my head.

3. KALA lp. This whole GOT damn lp rules. M.I.A. is neeeeeesh.

4. "Airwalker" by Jeremy Jay. He gave me his test press...can you imagine? It's not even out yet sucker.

5. "Singer Man" by Kingstonians. Rock steady cut.

6. Das Oath. The 9" record. Or was it 8? WHo gives a whoop.

7. "Colors" by Ice-T. Just watched the tape of this movie. I love when Sean Penn gets all disrespectful. Tough ass cut by the O.G.

Solid Gold - November 8th - Soul 'N' Oldies DANCE PARTY!!

A classic 60s soul sweat fest. Dancing the way it was meant. The way our forefathers meant. Hi energy and hi-fi.

Dimitri Dickinson, A Special Cat // Skull Kontrol

Tomorrow's the big night. Dimitri Dickinson will replace Sir Charles and Brandon Welchez and join me for a MEGA Skull Kontrol @ Live Wire. Booty Bassment's king of crunk has a punk side, see. If you know Dimitri, you know he's a special cat. So bring your ears, unfortunately filled with the muck of bad music and we'll clean 'em for you. You poor thing. Having to wait a whole two weeks!! Bless your heart. The wait is OVER, pup. Skull Kontrol tomorrow night.

Saturday, October 13, 2007

Say 'Ello To The Queen For Me.

This is meant to be read/viewed by my friends Andrew Miller, Chuck Rowell, Brandon Welchez and Joel Isaac Black. If you aren't one of them, keep moving.

I love you. Here's Manchester.

Paper Planes Can Fuck The Hell Right Off.

And lastly (for a while at least), can I please get that damn Paper Planes song out my head? I keep doing that thing when you don't know the lyrics but you sing it anyway. You know? Like, "Whe wha panne pahah". That's my M.I.A. lyric. I fucking can't stop and I am going ape nuts.

Off to sell cds at the big Roots and The Prayers show. I know that sounds weird. Right?

X's For Eyes And Tongues Hanging Out.

Now, now lil' doggies let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. We all know that the premier Thursday night experience is Skull Kontrol. The beeYOOtiful noise. The meticulous selections of the truest and most def jams. Punks. Raps. Power pops. Z90 faves. Oldies. Girl groups. Oi. Rude Boy shit. NOISE. And this week I told Brandon and Charles to take a hike. I said take a time out you jerks. I said you know what? I'll fix you, you punks. I'm sending you to England. That's right, bitch. Outta here you go. You'll go and you'll do it with a smile on your face. You'll play shows and earn a shekel or two. And sell a cd for pete's sake. I can't walk in my GOT damn house cuz a these friggin' Prayers cds. Jesus Christmas. So go. And then I said, you know what? Big D's coming along for this Thursday. That's right. The biggest D of all the D's. I'll fix them. Brace yourself.

It's going to suck so bad.

So Dimitri and his rag tag bunch of characters have done the world a disservice and booked the 4th Thursday of EVERY month. Jiminy crickets are you kidding me? So the worst it is. Two weeks from yesterday bitch. Chop Suey. Brought To You Courtesy Of The Red White And Blue. We Like To Party. The Aerosmith Armageddon song (hopefully). Maybe a lil' John Tesh for that ass? Songbird by the lovable jew Kenny G? All that shit maynard.

These guys. Pfft.

Here's my request doggie.

Alls I know is that this music led to me getting FUCKED up. Same with Brandon and our Sheffield cat, Andy. Fuggin' Andy. Girls love him. Anywayz.

Thursday, October 11, 2007

Tonight N stuff.

So anyway. There's this show tonight. It's at The Casbah. The FAMOUS Casbah. Where dreams are made. Polysics from Japan are playing. They're like mega big and stuff. They sound all hyper new wavy and scream and shit. I think their good but I'll know better by tomorrow. They have guys and girls up in there so that's different, right? Ha. And Numbers are playing. They're like no wavy new wavy spazzy dance stuff. I think they're good. They used to be, so hope they are now. I have this cool song by them that Gold Chains remixed. It was GOOD. And I'm playing records too. Between bands and shit. Sound fun? Then fuck it, go. GO. I think it will be FUN. And super packed, and super packed is fun in my book. Oh!! And it's John Peel Day, bless his soul. Keep it Peel. (It says that on his website...corny, right?)

I Kill Children.

Kill The Poor. Even though I am one. A poor that is. Dead kennendys' Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables is nothing new, sure. Nothing CRAZY. But I love it when a record is put aside for a while then bang. It rules again. It's ruling now. Boredom is also ruling so forgive me.

Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit 5 Thumbs Up.

On My Mind

Two things have been on my fucking mind over the last few days. M.I.A.'s Paper Planes song and Gary "U.S." Bonds' whole early 60s catalog. Fuck them both.

Watch this monster Gary "U.S" Bonds tear it up here on "Quarter To Three".

I hope at our Solid Gold soul party we can tear it up till a quarter to three. Or at least till quarter to 2, it being San Diego and all.

Tuesday, October 9, 2007

John Peel Day this Thursday.

This Thursday marks the anniversary of John Peel's last broadcast on the BBC before his untimely death in 2004. All around the world there will be John Peel Day celebrations. Here is San Diego's party.

October 18, Skull replacement.

So The "Mighty" Prayers are going across the pond. Off to see The Queen for 2 weeks or so. Festivals, club gigs and what have you. They leave next week. Bon Voyage doggies.

Anyway. The important thing here is me. While they're gone I'll be doing the next Skull Kontrol on the 18th. Since I usually do these shits with Brandon Welchez and Sir Charles, I'll need a new partner. Cuz I'm lazy and I won't do it alone. SO. I've asked Big D aka Dimitri Dickensen aka DJ Cockerspaniel of Booty Bassment to join me. It's going to be bonkers. Maybe even bananas. Expect a brand new take on our anything goes Skull policy. Expect your ears to be even EXTRA cleaned out. God bless Skull Kontrol.

Skull Kontrol ALWAYS @ Live Wire.

Thursday October 18.

Always FREE.

More Freedom Blogging, Francoise, Freedom Video Channel, Blah

Et Meme. My current favorite Francoise Hardy song. Fuck it. By the way, there's this channel on Youtube with the BEST goddamn videos of Francoise Hardy. It's called Gusyverde. It rules. Go!! The link is below.

Super cool Youtube channel with all the French shit!!

But first watch "Et Meme". It's so GODDAMN good.

And thank you to Mrs. Pactor for my marvelous birthday present! The first Francoise record. You're the BEST!!

The Sess

The Sess is the best live band in San Diego. Their songs are perfect, their back ups are on point and their energy is unmatched. To The Sess, my sincerest apology for sleeping so long.

Brandon's triumphant return.

Sorry for my absence from this blog. I realize everyone's been chewing their nails off waiting for me to drop some more science on that ass. Guess what? Get off my fucking back. I got problems of my own.

In the meantime, here's what I've been enjoying lately. It's arguably the best song off of the best Pink Floyd album. And don't kid yourself, they only had two good albums. I literally sit around my room in my underpants, eating cookies, chest covered in crumbs, and enter full psychedelic melt-down listening to this record. Can you imagine that? Do you like that image?

Also, go the Casbah tonight and the Che Cafe tomorrow.
xo

Lazy blog. But fuck you, man.

Favorite song right now: Spicks And Specks by Status Quo. It's not the boogie rock era Status Quo you "shit for brains", it's the psychadelic era. Fucker, like 1968, bitch.

Favorite album right now. The Feelies' Crazy Rhythms lp. 1980 bitch. Matt Lampkin, you'll love this and I'm bringing you a goddamn burn tonight. If you still read this piece of shit blog, I mean. If not, go fuck yourself, you chickenshit bitch.

And I'm not linking any of this shit up, man. Do your own fuckin' work. This ain't for you, it's for ME. I'm just expressing myself. I'm tired, man.

Oh, fuck. Favorite cuss word: chickenshit.

Dollars And Sense

Chuck had a pretty bad ass idea when he put together tonight's big ol' show at The Casbah. It's going to be bonkers. Fuggin' Chuck. Putting things together. Now there's going to be LOADS of cash!! Man oh man oh manomanoman. I can't wait to count it all.

I won't bother posting the flier for it. We already posted that a few times. Instead, I'll post a lil' image of what Andrew, Brandon, Chuck and I are going to look like leaving The Casbah tonight.

Solid Gold

oops. The soul/oldies night @ Tower every second Thursday is called SOLID GOLD. I just hadn't made my mind up. Now I did.

Ehhhhhh...NOISHE!!

So starting with November 8th I will be starting an oldies/soul dance party every 2nd Thursday of the month @ Tower Bar. It's going to be bananas. I'm going to book one band per party. So far November 8th is K Records' Jeremy Jay, and he'll be celebrating the release of his Airwalker ep!! On December 13th I have The Muslims booked. They'll be celebrating anything they want. Super duper duper pumped. The night will be heavy on rare and uptempo soul and oldies ROCKERS. Lots o' 45s. Sweaty stuff. Oh and it's 5 dollars. No name yet. Stay tuned.

See y'all at Skull Kontrol tonight!!

Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't....

...and Jonathan Richman just plain DOES. Man oh man. And I love the weirdo at the beginning, the announcer guy or whatever. This was taken from a Rough Trade VHS comp.

The Worst djs EVER!! (But on purpose?)

There is no Skull Kontrol night tonight. Instead:

Our fine friend Dimitri aka Big D aka DJ Cockerspaniel of Booty Bassment and the Basstanic blog has come up with another one of his hair brained schemes. If you're in the greater San Diego area you might want to hit this up. It's TONIGHT and it's free. The lamest, worstest, dumbest, cheesiest, wackest, gayest, crappiest horseshit EVER played in a club!! Go on his Basstanic blog to request your favorite dumb song! You can find his blog in our Blogroll to the right. I think I'm going to request that one Venga Boys song. Remember? "Pum bum bum bum bum PUNUM, the Venga Boys are coming, New York and San Francisco!" Something like that. Oh! And at the beginning it goes, "We like to party, we like to party." Anyways. Go to this shit.

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Super cool and super dumb.

Man oh man last night was fun. What the hell? People will come out to hear rock steady, reggae and ska? How come when I have faith in people I'm wrong and then outta nowheres, when I have NO faith I'm surprised? So anyway. Last night was bonkers.

Side note. Skull Kontrol is NOT this Thursday. NOT. It's next Thursday the FOURTH. This Thursday me and all the dogs are going to Dimitri's stupid night at Zombie. He's playing the dumbest jams in history. Like super dumb shit. Go.

The best in 60s and 70s reggae, rock steady & ska

Good morning. Tonight I'm taking part in this thing with Jeff Graves and Richie Lauridsen (The Muslims). Reggae, rock steady and ska. 60s, 70s, rudeboy and skinhead. I am pretty excited, as this has been my shit lately. It's free. I and I say you should go.

And below, a video of one of my favorite 45s. Jackie Robinson's "Homely Girl".

Jeremy Jay plans new record release...Airwalker

November Sixth 2007 is the release date of the new Jeremy Jay record. "Airwalker" will be released on legendary underground label K Records. The title track and first single is amongst my current favorite songs. If you like Jonathon Richman then you'll love this. But that's not meant to mean it sounds just like JR, just if you get him, you'll get Jeremy Jay. More great, great shit from Los Angeles.

As Jeremy is an old friend of ours, we'll be setting up a record release party on November 8 including a live set by JJ and a soul dance party with records meticulously chosen by me and the rest of the Skullz. Venue's not chosen yet, but don't trip...it'll be a good one. Mark your calendars.

Check out Airwalker and 3 other songs on his Myspace profile.

What an awful event.

Why would anyone have even flirted with the idea of going to Street Scene? What an awful collection of "artists". I struggled to find a group on the list I care about. What a cheesy, corporate, awful event. Haha, Z-Trip? The "inventor of the mash up" (self proclaimed). What a joke. Of 71 "artists" on the line-up, I would probably watch one, maybe two per day. Bad Brains? Maybe, but most likely disappointing. Air? Fuck. Saw 'em once. They're alright. Good show I 'spos. Too Short? Sure. Just to giggle while "nigga niggs bitch bitch fuck" gets hollered through the PA. Gosh. What an awful event.

Skull switch leads to new flier/flyer.

So, I guess, the "line-up" for the October 4th Skull Kontrol night @ Live Wire changed. Brandon and Chuck switched it up on me. So I had to go back to my creative place and whip this thing up. I feel creatively drained. So much of my heart and soul goes in to these pieces. That's right, it's a piece. An Orduno piece.

Eastern Promises

God damn, this movie was good. I fucking love mob ass gangster shit. And the Russians are due. Didn't they kill Bill Cosby's kid? Director David Cronenberg rules evidently. Can you believe I've never seen Crash, Naked Lunch, The Dead Zone or History Of Violence? What the fuck? Ha. I DID see The Fly. And I love that movie. I'm renting two of those movies this Monday. A twofer if you will. Probably Crash and HOV. But anyway. Eastern Promises. Brutal. Buhhhh-RUTAL.

Friday, September 21, 2007

Flyer? Or flier?

If you haven't seen me around for a while, it's cuz I've been playing with my colors.

And NO, I'm not for hire. This is my ART man. My craft. I can't compromise the integrity of my art.

Riot Grrrl - Revolution: Girl Style Now!

I am looking forward to this book. Black Dog Publishing did a great job with the Rough Trade book, so I'm expecting the same quality. It comes out in October.

My favorite band from this movement, by the way, was Slant 6. The Dischord 7" in particular was best.

Skull Kontrol this Thursday!!

Skull Kontrol is this week. Another magical noisy party. Does anyone rrealize the magic? I couldn't imagine more fun. I really couldn't. It's my favorite of anything I've ever been involved in. A tiny room filled with sweaty fools surrounded by the best and loudest music. And sorry for "tooting my own horn" with the "best" music statement. But it's true. Sorry charlie.

Anyway, this week is going to be special fun. Back to school. Summer's over. Let's celebrate with the cutest lil' anarchy party around.

FREEEEEEEEEEEE

More details soon.

Quote of the day/week/year.

So yesterday I lugged my records to the park festival thing. I was supposed to play records between bands and stuff. Cool, cool. Anyway, I had to get together with the sound guy/ equipment guy to get stuff set up and choose where I wanted to be. This guy was kinda burly and a little intimidating. Whatever. He uses his muscles for a living, no big. I just wanted you, the reader, to get a visual. Soooo. While unloading the turntables, he asked me what was HANDS DOWN the quote of the day/week/year.

"Hey man, you want these tables set up 'battle style'?"

P.Y.T and Blue Monday

Look. I don't want this blog be some kind of negative platform for me and my friends, I mean it. I want to share all the stuff we are organizing, along with some of the stuff that we love. Music, mostly, but anything that floats our boat.

But sometimes I just can't help it. This is one of those times.

OK. Can I please not hear "P.Y.T." by Michael Jackson or "Blue Monday" by New Order at a bar EVER again? What the fuck. I was at this bar the other night, for some bullshit event I was invited to. Man, was it bullshit. But anyway, mixed into generic electro bullcrap came these two songs. To the dj's credit, the dad and mom type clientele ate it up. I seen this gal, on the dancefloor, that looked like my 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Scherer. But back to the songs. Am I that crazy? Am I really that picky? "Whoa, look at me with all the obscurities!" I'm SOOO underground? I don't think so.

To end on a positive note, there's a Lock Up marathon on MSNBC. I love incarceration.

Partytime...BIG Saturday.

Sooooooooooooooooooo. Tomorrow is a busy busy day. There's a party at Golden Hill park first of all. This event is being put together by our fine pals at the Cat Dirt blog and record label. Scott n Sophie. All kinds of bands, food, beer, grass, bathrooms and what not. It starts at noon and goes to 10:00 (?). The Atoms and The Prayers play late. From 5-10, though me, Chuck, Brandon, and Jack Adler are going to play records between bands. THEE Jack Adler. If you don't know who that is, never mind. No biggies. Should be fun.

Later on tomorrow, like ten-ish, there's a show at Tower Bar. The Vultures, The Viewmasters and Desert Diamonds (featuring Gabe from The Muslims). The Skullz are also branging their records. $5?

My favorite song right now: Turn To Stone by Electric Light Orchestra

What the hell?

So, I was introduced last night to WatchTvSitcoms.com. What the HELL? Current movies free? Great TV episodes free? DVDs free? I swear. I don't get it. There's a donation area that says what they need to raise (1200ish) a month to keep it running, and how much earned so far. Fuck it, I threw in a buck. A buck, cuz I'm watching Season 6B of Sopranos tonight. If I have time, I'm watching Sunshine, the new Danny Boyle movie that nobody wanted to check out on ye olde big screen. Oh Lord, please let this last...and if you check it out, throw in a shekel or two.

This is my shit right now: Studio One Rude Boy comp

I've waited a long time to write about this GOT damn record/set. Today, when I saw my pal Matty McLaughlin, and suggested it to him, I decided, "fuck it.". This 2xlp is SO good. Easily the best record I've bought this year. It consists of reggae, ska and rock steady from the Rude Boy era. The first two songs alone will knock your socks off. The fast rocking ska of Jackie Opel's "You're Too Bad", then the dubby rocker, "Murderer" by Johnny Osbourne...oh dear. Everytime I play songs from this collection at one of these lil' dj things, people freak out. This is the shit I like right now. Ummm, it comes with bad ass liner notes and all that shit. Available on cd also.

Here's the goddamn track listing:

1. Jackie Opel — You're Too Bad
2. Johnny Osbourne — Murderer
3. John Holt — Hooligan
4. Keith McCarthy — Everybody Rude Now
5. Owen Gray — Ballistic Affair
6. Roy Richards — Get Smart
7. Dillinger — Stop The War
8. Jim Brown — Love In The Dance
9. Desmond Baker And The Clarendonians — Rude Boy Gone A Jail
10. The Wailers — Good Good Rudie
11. Dennis Brown — Make It Easy On Yourself
12. Wailing Souls — Don't Fight It
13. Dub Specialist — Peace Theme
14. Mr Foundation — See Them A Come
15. Dudley Sibley — Run Boy Run
16. Dennis Brown — Johnny Too Bad
17. Bob Andy — Crime Don’t Pay
18. Soul Brothers — Mr Kiss A Bang Bang

Here's the website link. You can listen to every song on the comp!!

Young Marble Giants rerelease!!

Speaking of Rough Trade. What perfect timing? Tomorrow sees the release of Young Marble Giants' Colossal Youth album in deluxe form on Domino. The release, entititled "Colossal Youth And Collected Works" will be composed of THREE cds including the original album remastered, an ep, "Testcard", an early recording, and some tracks recorded for compilations and a Peel Sessions recording from 1980.

Domino has already wowed me with the brilliant Orange Juice collection, "Glasgow School", so I have all the faith that this 3 cd set is going to be great.

Art Fag update and shit: Rough Trade Records

One of my inspirations and influences in regards to my starting Art Fag Recordings was Rough Trade Records. Some of my favorite records were released on this label and the diversity is something I will always strive for. From Stiff Little Fingers to The Libertines, and Young Marble Giants, Raincoats and Television Personalities in between, there was a mix of music and bands unparalleled by any label before or since. Oh, yeah don't forget about those others...The Smiths and The Strokes. The Fall? You get the picture. Or do you?

That being said, I'm happy to give a little peek into Art Fag's plans. Set for a 2008 release date, Art Fag will be releasing a record in tribute to Rough Trade. Interpretations of Rough Trade songs by (so far) the likes of The Prayers, NO AGE, Mika Miko, Chromatics, Glass Candy, The Vultures, Kill Me Tomorrow and The Muslims. Look forward to many, many more bands to be added. I don't plan on talking about this too much in the next coming months, I just couldn't contain my excitement. So there's your sneak peek. Look forward to a great record.

Here's a funny little history of Rough Trade set to a song by Jeffrey Lewis:
